TRW Electric Power Steering Pump — Porsche Cup Car (986 / 987 / 996 / 997 / 991)

The factory Porsche Motorsport solution for electric power steering.

This is the TRW electro-hydraulic power steering pump used by Porsche Motorsport in the 996, 997, and 991 GT3 Cup cars. It replaces the engine-driven hydraulic pump with a standalone electric unit. The same conversion run on factory race cars, and one of the most popular upgrades for street and track 986 Boxsters, 987 Boxster/Caymans, 996s, and 997s.

Why convert to electric power steering:

• Free up horsepower. Deleting the belt-driven pump removes parasitic drag from the engine — typical gains are in the 10–15 hp range at the crank.
• Simplified engine bay. Essential for engine swaps (K-series, LS, etc.) where retaining the factory belt-driven pump isn't practical. Power steering becomes two hoses and four wires.
• Proven reliability. This isn't an eBay experiment. It's the pump Porsche Motorsport specs for wheel-to-wheel racing.

Installation notes:

Installation requires mounting the pump (frunk mounting is the common approach on 986/996/997), running high-pressure and return lines to the steering rack (-6AN is typical), and wiring switched, fused power (60A circuit recommended). A power steering delete pulley or shortened belt is required at the engine. Contact us if you need custom brackets, lines, or fabrication support, that's what we do.
